Veterinary Institute Oldenburg

LAVES Veterinary Institute Oldenburg occupies itself with significant tasks in the areas of diagnosing and fighting animal viruses and diseases, ensuring animal welfare and consumer protection.

In the special areas and departments, the institute tests for animal diseases which are imperative for reporting and if called for, prosecuting, as well as diseases spread from animals to humans (zoonosis), hygiene risks in slaughter houses and companies preparing meats, and agricultural producers. Important focus is made on antibiotics and other residues in animals and resistances of micro-organisms. In 2003 approximately 640.000 samples were processed and 785.000 tests carried out in the Veterinary Institute Oldenburg. An extensive quality management system in accordance with international standards DIN EN ISO/IEC 17205 guarantees, in the AKS Hanover approved Institute, high assertion and implementation of results. The Veterinary Institute employs a team of 131 scientific experts and other specialists.
