Food

In accordance with the European "REGULATION …for determining the general principles and requirements of Food Law”, food is defined as “all materials and substances meant for human consumption, or which can be rationally expected to be consumed by humans in a processed, semi-processed or raw condition”.

The following also count as foodstuffs: Drinks, chewing gum, as well as all substances, including water, which are intentionally used for the manufacturing, processing, or or treating of foodstuffs.

Differentiating foodstuffs from pharmaceuticals is often a difficult issue.

The aim of food inspection is to protect consumers from health risks and being misled.
