Specialized Department Food Control

The specialized Department Food Control was set up to expertly advise and support the municipal veterinary and food inspection authorities in implementing and carrying out the relative comprehensive legislations.

Consultation is carried out in following areas:

• foodstuffs derived from plants and animals
• genetically modified and novelty foodstuff
• articles of daily use and cosmetics
• pesticide residue
• contamination through heavy metal, mycotoxin, acrylamid etc.

The Food Control Specialized Department works on strategic projects in the area of consumer health protection, involving institute specialists and experts from the veterinary and food inspection authorities (e.g. instructions for the inspection authorities on carrying out control measures in own companies, company-structured-oriented specimen management). The Food Control Specialized Department in Lower Saxony is also responsible for the analysis of alert reports from the EU rapid alarm system.

The team of the Food Control Specialized Department consists of a veterinarian, a food chemist, two food technologists and one clerical worker in administration.
