Institute for Commodities Lüneburg
The Institute for Commodities Lüneburg currently employs 46 members of staff and within the scope of the official food monitoring statewide responsiblefor some product groups also for other States in the North German Cooperation (Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein) regarding testing and evaluating of:
- games (for all states in the North German Cooperation)
- articles for daily use coming into contact with food (for Lower Saxony, Bremen, Berlin, Brandenburg)
- articles for daily use for cleaning and maintenance work (for all states in the North German Cooperation)
- cosmetic products (for Lower Saxony and Bremen)
Furthermore, the Institute for Commodities Lüneburg is responsible for the monitoring of detergents and cleansers in accordance with the Legislation for Detergents and Cleansers (WRMG).
In agreement with the responsible monitoring authorities company inspections are carried out.
Moreover, the Institute for Commodities trains chemical laboratory assistants and is involved in educating food inspectors. Furthermore, food chemists from Lower Saxony and Hamburg complete a part of their practical training at the Institute for Commodities Lüneburg, culminating with a practical examination.
